Police in Charleston, South Carolina, say they are responding to an “active shooter” who has taken hostages and shot at least one person at a downtown restaurant.
Police spokesman Charles Francis said a shooting was reported just after noon on King Street, which is a row of restaurant and shops where tourists frequently gather.
Tom and Patsy Plant told The Post and Courier of Charleston they were eating at Virginia’s restaurant and saw a man come out of the kitchen with a gun in his hand and said, “There’s a new boss in town.”
An active shooter was reported in downtown Charleston, S.C., Thursday afternoon, prompting multiple roads to be blocked as police rush to the scene, Fox News reports.
The “active shooter situation” was reported on King Street just after 12 p.m. Charleston police said the area has been blocked and asked residents to avoid the area.
