Americans Bought Enough Guns On Black Friday To Arm The Marine Corps

After a gunman opened fire at a Colorado Springs Planned Parenthood  Friday, killing three people and injuring several others, President Obama urged the nation to increase controls over “the easy accessibility of weapons of war.”

“This is not normal,” the president said in a statement Saturday. “We can’t let it become normal.”

“If we truly care about this — if we’re going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience — then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them,” Mr. Obama added. “Enough is enough.”

According to the FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer said Black Friday shattered the single-day record for gun sales – with 185,345 background checks processed in a 24 hour period.

President Obama told people to talk about guns over Thanksgiving – but those talks didn’t go quite the way he wanted.

The President wanted people to push their relatives to support a gun control agenda, even offering talking points for bringing the subject up at the table. If those talks happened at all, it seems like Americans nationwide came to a very different conclusion than the President.

According to the FBI spokesman Stephen Fischer said Black Friday shattered the single-day record for gun sales – with 185,345 background checks processed in a 24 hour period.

The number breaks down to slightly more than two background checks, or enough firearms to arm each of the 182,000 active duty members of the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi!

Those numbers ignore the 20 states that allow licensed concealed carriers to forego background checks on each purchase, in compliance with ATF guidelines. That means the number of firearms purchased on Black Friday is likely more than 200,000.

And that’s freaking awesome.
