Crowd Goes Wild as Miss Louisiana Gives Her Take on the Bergdahl Prisoner Swap at the Miss USA Contest

Brittany Guidry of Louisiana, competing for the title of Miss USA, finished 3rd runner-up in this year’s annual beauty pageant. It was not her looks, bathing suit, or talent that earned her the biggest applause.

The top 5 contestants were asked questions about current events, and Guidry’s question was about the issue that’s been headlining papers for the past week.

“In recent weeks the U.S. has released five detainees in Guantanamo in exchange for one U.S. soldier held captive in Afghanistan. The U.S. policy is to leave no soldier behind. Do you think it’s fair to sacrifice or swap lives to uphold this policy?”

Guidry responded, “I am glad that we got our guy back. However, I do not feel it is right that we subject ourselves to these acts of terrorism,” she said as the crowd screamed and cheered.

While Guidry’s answer was well-informed, insightful and earned her high marks with the audience, it was not enough to ensure her win. That being said, I believe this young lady left a lasting impression on people and no doubt she has a promising future in politics.
