Distraught Father of Victim and Gunman’s Aunt Blame Gun and NRA for Madman’s Rampage

While I understand the grief and anguish the families are suffering, I do not see how they can possibly blame this on the gun used and the NRA. Rodger also stabbed three people so where is the outrage over the knife? Do they really think taking guns away from people who buy them legally and register them as is required will stop violent, insane people from committing these horrific crimes? Why not blame the police who were warned about Rodgers dangerous state of mind; why not blame the therapists who must have know he was on the verge of a murderous rampage… but of course not, lets blame the gun, an inanimate object.

This is a horrible and unfortunate tragedy but stricter gun laws will not stop crazy people or criminals from acquiring guns, it will only infringe on law abiding citizens Constitutional rights to bare arms.

The distraught father of Christopher Martinez who was among the victims killed in a shooting rampage near a California university was overcome with grief and rage Saturday as he described his ‘lost and broken’ family and the proliferation of guns he believes led to his son’s death.  Martinez choked back tears as he spoke, then grew angrier as he talked about gun laws and lobbyists.

Richard Martinez, father of Christopher Martinez, who was shot at University of California, Santa Barbara, breaks down in tears as he talks to the media at the Santa Barbara Sheriff Headquarters

‘Our son Christopher and six others are dead,’ Richard Martinez told reporters gathered outside a sheriff’s station for a news conference the day after the shootings near the University of California, Santa Barbara, where the 20-year-old son was a sophomore, ‘You don’t think it’ll happen to your child until it does.’

Richard Martinez went on to say that he blamed, ‘craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA,’ for his son’s death. In his statement about the death of his son, Richard Martinez said: ‘Our family has a message for every parent out there. You don’t think it will happen to your child until it does, ‘Chris was a really great kid. Ask anyone who knew him. His death has left our family lost and broken, ‘Why did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA.’

The aunt of British born murderer Elliot Rodger made a passionate appeal to Obama and the US authorities to ‘Stop the slaughter’.

Jenni Rodger, 55, who lives in south west France, said: ‘He was a sick kid – somebody who was seriously mentally disturbed – and yet he was able to get hold of guns.’

Deputies found three semi-automatic handguns with 400 unspent rounds in his black BMW. All were purchased legally and registered. Rodger had three semi automatic handguns; a Glock 34 and two Sig Sauer P226s, as well as more than 400 rounds of ammo when he died.

    • Blame the police who were warned several times that the boy was unstable… or here’s a thought – how about blaming the disturbed young man who committed this horrific act.

  1. Where’s the picture of the knife he used in the 1st three murders in his apartment? Surely he wants knives banned too.

  2. Here we go again blaming the gun and the NRA..people get real please, it was the distraught, mistreated, delusional boy behind the gun that pulled that trigger, he was mental. No government is ever ever going to fix the violence that happens every day until people wake up and fix themselves.

  3. I just don’t understand this stuff coming from supposedly intelligent people. I know they must be going through Hell right now. BUT, PLEASE, LET’S address the real issue and it’s NOT GUNS. There was a seriously ill, unstable young man who killed these people. He also killed with a knife and a car. The police were notified about this kid and did nothing. Why don’t we blame them? Better yet, unless they are too self absorbed and busy with their own lives, why did the family and parents of this kid not know he had serious mental issues. So why not blame them? And I am almost certain, like most kids for the past 20 years, this kid has been spoon fed violence every day of his life by HOLLYWOOD, video games, and bad “music”. So why not blame them? And DO NOT TELL me that growing up with constant violence does not influence some people. I grew up with “Father Knows Best”, “Leave It To Beaver”, “My Three Sons”, etc. and since I certainly didn’t have a normal family, I thought this was what most families were really like. And yes, it totally screwed me up.

  4. “Martinez, in an emotional plea, asked, “Why did Chris die?” Chris died because an EVIL doer wanted to kill him and was successful, before an armed good guy could kill the evil doer. Period!
Once again the gun grabbers come out when an EVIL doer commits an evil act. Their response is MORE restrictions on guns, which have an adverse effect on law abiding citizens. In ALL fifty states MURDER is against the law. Nevertheless, EVIL doers still commit murder because they do not care about the law. Furthermore, the law does not prevent them from doing the act and police typically respond after the fact. As tragic as these shootings are there really is no way to prevent it from happening again because there is evil in the World. However, one can limit the damage of the evil doer if there are good people on the scene who are armed and willing to take action against the perpetrator. There are people who do not want to own a gun; then they should not get one, but they should not try to force their agenda on others.

  5. The second amendment: The only right you need a permit for. this guy stabbed the first 3 victims. No mention of that by the anti gun idiots.
No to mention the police were out killing dogs when they should have been dealing with this guy before this happened.

  6. Yes it’s easy to blame the NRA and a gun instead of the whacked out kid with delusions of grandeur. He never even held a girls hand. Was socially inept. Yet referred to himself as magnificent and hated women for their lack of attention. Sounds like the family will be trying to blame anyone they can instead of themselves. And of course once again no laws would have prevented this.
