Speaking at the University of California-Davis Monday, Hillary Clinton said that the Russians had flooded Twitter with posts about NFL players peaceful protests in order to turn Americans against each other.
Clinton then made it clear that she supports players kneeling saying, “And by the way, let’s be clear, those players aren’t protesting the National Anthem or the flag, they’re protesting racism and injustice, and they have every right to do so.”
Clinton was on her book tour for “What Happened,” and was discussing Russian interference in the 2016 election when she made the remarks in favor of NFL players kneeling.
“Just a couple of weeks ago, accounts with suspected links to Russia flooded Twitter with posts about NFL players’ peaceful protests,” Clinton explained. “The Russians posted on both sides of the debate using hashtags like #StandForOurAnthem or #TakeAKnee to inflame passions and stir up disagreements.”
There is no justification for kneeling during the National Anthem – there are more appropriate ways for players to protest their views about African-American injustice. If they really wanted to make a change, they would find proactive ways to make change happen.
