One deputy is dead and two other deputies are injured after a shootout in Bailey Wednesday morning.
The Denver Channel reports Officials confirm the shooting happened during what is being called a “law enforcement operation.” When Denver7 asked for details, we were told it was a “purposeful encounter.”
According to a reporter in the area, the operation started at 9:23 a.m. and shots were fired at 9:48 a.m.
Officials confirmed to Denver7 that one suspect was shot and killed. However, it’s not known if the suspect was shot by deputies or if the suspect took his own life. There are reports the suspect’s body is outside a home.
The two deputies who were injured in the shooting have non-life threatening injuries.
The bomb squad and the Colorado Bureau of Investigations has been called to the scene. The ATF has also been called to the scene to assist.
Denver7 has unconfirmed reports that this situation may have involved a survivalist group.
A grocery store owner who was a few miles from the scene said shooting happened in the Friendship Ranch subdivision.
AIRTRACKER7 said there is a road block at Iris and Pine drives, near the Deer Creek Christian Camp.
Platte Canyon and Fitzsimmons Middle School are on lock down.
