Six days after being named the 17th richest member of Congress,  U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson (D) estranged wife was issued an EBT card to help feed his children.

Lolita Grayson was approved for public assistance food stamps by the state of Florida, for their four minor children, who are also enrolled in the free lunch program in Orange County schools, according to ABC affiliate WFTV.

On the application filing for public assistance,  Lolita said her monthly income consisted of $592 per child which equates to more than $2,300 a month; Grayson claims to be paying the mortgage and household bills, leaving the reported income available for food for the children.

Married to the congressman for 24 years, Lolita filed for divorce early this year and things quickly got messy, and public. There was a physical altercation at their home a short time later — she accused Grayson of battering her and he countered by saying she hit him. He would later charge his wife with bigamy while filing for an annulment of their 24-year marriage.

Investigators said there wasn’t enough evidence that a crime had been committed during the confrontation. They reached that conclusion after also interviewing the couple’s oldest child, Grayson and one of his aides, who shot video of the incident.

The same week it was reported that Grayson reaped a $10 million dollar surge in his net worth, Lolita claimed he would not pay for needed repairs at the 5,300-square-foot Orlando house where she is living with the children.

Grayons’ attorney attributed her actions to politics the week before an election, telling WFTV his client pays about $10,000 a month for the mortgage, utilities and phone bill for the home.

“This is abusing the public,” attorney Mark Nejame said. “She’s going out and asking for support because she can’t support herself on $120,000? That’s outrageous.”

Rep. Grayson does not pay spousal support because his marriage is under the scope of a bigamy claim.  His attorneys are claiming the marriage was never valid because Lolita Grayson was never divorced from her last husband.

Grayson accused his wife of bigamy in court. He has asked for an annulment. U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson says Lolita posed as single “in order to induce” him to marry her in 1990. He claims that she later “secretly participated” in a divorce from her prior husband.

  1. This loon wants an annulment of a 24 year marriage with kids? Sorry, wacko. This is a member of Congress who votes on laws for the United States of America? This guy was elected by idiots or what? Seriously, what are the demographics of his district? I don’t want to live anywhere like it. Am I allowed to think that? Is it illegal to avoid people who seem to think it is OK to elect a guy like this to Congress? Does anyone normal really want to be represented by this guy? Come on. Its crazy and so is he.
