I would like nothing more than to say that this looks bad for President Barack Obama but no matter the allegations, and there have been many, nothing ever comes of it. No doubt, nothing will come of this either.
Leaders of three House panels on Friday said they had established a joint task force to investigate whether the Obama administration pressured intelligence analysts to deliberately manipulate intelligence data to make the Islamic State and its allies appear weaker in their reports.
Reps. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., and Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, will lead the investigation on behalf of the Armed Services and Intelligence committees and the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, Washington Examiner reports.
The Pentagon inspector general’s office also is investigating the allegations from analysts at U.S. Central Command headquarters in Tampa, Fla., and Defense Department officials have promised lawmakers a full accounting.
“In addition to looking into the specific allegations, the Joint Task Force will examine whether these allegations reflect systemic problems across the intelligence enterprise in CENTCOM or any other pertinent intelligence organizations,” Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, R-Calif., and Defense Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Rodney Freylinghuysen, R-N.J., said in a statement.advertisement - story continues below
Back in September Americas Freedom Fighters reported that two senior analysts at CENTCOM signed a written complaint sent to the Defense Department inspector general in July alleging that the reports, some of which were briefed to President Obama, portrayed the terror groups as weaker than the analysts believe they are. The reports were changed by CENTCOM higher-ups to adhere to the administration’s public line that the U.S. is winning the battle against ISIS and al Nusra, al Qaeda’s branch in Syria, the analysts claim.
That complaint was supported by 50 other analysts, some of whom have complained about politicizing of intelligence reports for months. On top of that, many claim that the Obama administration would actually punish officials for reporting the truth- that the United States is NOT winning the fight against the jihads.
And Conservative Tribune reports that even some Democrats have gotten on the president and the administration about the intelligence doctoring, including one of the ranking Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Jackie Speier of California.
“More recently the intelligence community, I think, has provided much more accurate assessments. But CENTCOM, which is the area that is responsible for the Middle East, has, for whatever reasons, we don’t know yet why, has dumbed down the intelligence, has sweetened it, has made it seem like we are being more successful there than we are,” Speier said.advertisement - story continues below
“I’m deeply troubled by what I believe is doctoring that has taken place and has created an impression that we are doing better there than we actually are.”
Rep. Speier may claim “we don’t know yet why” intelligence reports were doctored, but we’re pretty sure we understand why.
“Any accusation of intelligence being altered to fit a political narrative must be fully investigated and those responsible held accountable,” added Rep. Pompeo in his statement.
Hopefully we will learn the truth and it will be officially exposed but most of us already know the truth.advertisement - story continues below
