Donald Trump: If A Republican Did What Hillary Clinton Did, “They Would Have Already Been In Jail”

Donald Trump say’s actions related to Hillary Clinton’s private email system and server were “almost certainly criminal”

Presidential Candidate Donald Trump said via phone on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I will say this — what she did, if you look at General [David] Petraeus, what she did is far greater as a crime, and it is a crime,”   “The question is whether or not Democrat prosecutors will prosecute her. And everybody is watching to see whether or not they’re honorable because frankly, if that were a Republican that did what she did, they would have already been in jail.”

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Thursday that former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s actions related to her private email system and server were “almost certainly criminal” and if a Republican were in the same position they would already be behind bars.

“I will say this — what she did, if you look at General [David] Petraeus, what she did is far greater as a crime, and it is a crime,” Mr. Trump said via phone on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “The question is whether or not Democrat prosecutors will prosecute her. And everybody is watching to see whether or not they’re honorable because frankly, if that were a Republican that did what she did, they would have already been in jail.”

Mr. Trump said Mrs. Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential front-runner, has done something on a “much higher level” with much more important documents than Mr. Petraeus, the retired Army general who was sentenced in April to two years of probation and fined $100,000 for mishandling classified documents.

The federal government is looking into whether Mrs. Clinton’s emails on the private address and server she set up to use while serving as the nation’s top diplomat contain classified information. She and her team have continually insisted the set-up was legally permitted and she didn’t send classified information or receive information marked classified at the time.

“And it’s like, nothing seems to be happening,” Mr. Trump said. “So, you know, the world is watching. … What’s interesting is that if a Republican wins, hopefully it’s going to be me, but if a Republican wins, you know you have [a] statute of limitation that’s at least five but probably six years.”

“Well, you know, Hillary might really have to win this election because if a Republican wins, I would imagine that their attorney general and their people, their various prosecutors, will be looking at this because it goes [for] years after the election, four years after the election,” he said. “So Hillary might be fighting for her life in more ways than one.”

“Look, what she did is probably criminal — I think … you could say almost certainly criminal,” Mr. Trump said. “And it looks to me like she’s not going to be prosecuted, and that’s only because the prosecutors are Democrats.”
