Entire County Clerk’s Office Resigns Over Same-Sex Marriage

Tennessee takes a stand. No same-sex marriage licenses will be issued in Decatur County, Tennessee, because the entire county clerk’s office has resigned following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that legalized same-sex marriage nationwide.

Breitbart reported:

Decatur County Clerk Gwen Pope explained her decision to quit her elected post. “It’s for the glory of God. He’s going to get all the glory,” she told WBIR.

Pope asserted she would rather resign than submit to issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. She and her two staff members, Sharon Bell and Mickey Butler, have all quit for the same reason. Their last day of work is July 14.

The TV station indicates the phone in the Decatur County Clerk Office “rang nonstop” as “[o]ver and over again, people praised the decision of the three workers who have decided to step down from their positions rather than hand out same-sex marriage licenses.”

Drew Baker of the Tennessee Equality Project said Decatur County is the only county in the state that has refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

Pope said she and her employees will all look for new jobs. “I honestly believe God will take care of us,” she said.

“These three ladies stood upon their beliefs and they stood upon their morals and no one can fault them,” said Scott King, a Decatur County resident. “Too often we as Christians don’t do that. It’s time we followed the lead of what they showed us.”

Kathy Parrish, who works in Decaturville, also praised the women.

“It (same-sex marriage) is wrong because it goes against the Bible and everything God intended for it to be,” Parrish said. “That wasn’t God’s plan. God’s plan was for men to be with women and women to be with men.”

  1. The problem is that religion holds a lower place in the hierarchy of protected classes, I.e. “sexuality trumps faith”. Faith competes in the free market of ideas whereas sexuality has been assigned “immutable”.

  2. I’m completely surprised that they don’t all stand up to these degusting queers. Why should any decent people have to bow down to these pathetic people and there trashy lifestyle

  3. That’s great but arent there bigger fish to fry? What are these same women doing about ISIS, evil obama, saving the state from the infestation of islam? I am sorry friends but this gay stuff is trivial compared to the imminent dangers of Islam taking over Tennessee.

  4. Sad..sad country based on freedom and still organized religion forces people to conform to their beliefs. Proud to be a woman married to an amazing man but last I checked God was judge and jury not us.

    • “God is judge and jury.” You say. Do you realize the truth of that statement? He judges nations, not just individuals. In judging nations, everyone unable to live elsewhere gets hurt. I don’t want to get hurt. What must I do so as not to get hurt? Obey God in putting pressure on deviants of whatever sort so as to “avert the evil decree”. The problem is that when the percentage of those opposing deviancy drops below a certain threshold, said evil decree cannot be averted. Everyone gets hurt, you, me, and the deviants.

      • Soooo…you believe that you can live a completely godly life and because your neighbors are in a same sex marriage God will judge you in the same manor as your neighbor? I’m curious to know where that part of Sunday school was.
        John 8:7

        • Divine judgement tends to be territorial in nature. How did Lot avoid judgement? He did so by putting DISTANCE between himself and the target of judgement. I am assuming the worst case form of judgement, i.e. that which involves large scale natural, technological and civil disasters.

The bottom line is that YOU know what to do to avoid harm (repent and/or pressure). You are WILLING to suffer that harm to remain politically correct (preserved career and/or social status). Martyrdom for a depraved cause is not martyrdom, it is depravity.
