DNC staffer Seth Rich was gunned down near his affluent neighborhood in Washington, D.C., on July 10. Theories exploded in the news media about Rich’s possible involvement in the WikiLeaks dump of nearly 20,000 Democratic National Committee emails – some of the messages suggesting that the Democratic Party favored nominee Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders from the start.
Police called his death a “botched robbery” – although Rich’s watch, cell phone and wallet were not taken during the encounter.
That was suspicious enough to generate conspiracies surrounding his death. The death of Rich first garnered widespread attention in August after WikiLeaks, who had begun publishing hacked DNC emails just one month prior, offered a $20,000 reward for information “leading to conviction for the murder.” according to Freedom Daily.
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange fueled speculation soon after that Rich was the source of the DNC hack during an interview on Dutch television. “Whistle-blowers go to significant efforts to get us material and often very significant risks,” Assange said. “As a 27-year-old, works for the DNC, was shot in the back, murdered just a few weeks ago for unknown reasons as he was walking down the street in Washington.” You can watch that interview below:
Finally, the parents of Seth Rich are speaking out. As Fox 5 DC reported:
The parents of murdered Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich are back in D.C. in hopes of turning up new leads in the case.
There have been no breaks in the case since their son was gunned down early on the morning of July 10. Police say Seth was a victim of a botched robbery however his wallet, watch and cell phone were not taken.
“He fought with them and whoever did it, they have some bruises they have blood on them so if you saw anybody running in alleys, if you saw anybody coming home who was bruised and bloodied please call the police let them check it out,” Seth’s mother pleaded.
Joel and Mary revealed some new information in the case, telling reporters there were no shell casings found at the scene indicating their son was likely shot with a revolver.
The Gateway Pundit adds:
Redditors and social media users were pursuing a “lead” saying that Rich was en route to the FBI the morning of his murder, apparently intending to speak to special agents about an “ongoing court case” possibly involving the Clinton family.
Seth Rich’s father Joel told reporters, “If it was a robbery — it failed because he still has his watch, he still has his money — he still has his credit cards, still had his phone so it was a wasted effort except we lost a life.”
The Metropolitan Police put up the following reward posted for any leads on Rich’s murder.
