FBI Tried To Recruit Boston Bomber As An Informant

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving Boston bombing suspect stated his older brother Tamerlan was ‘all-powerful’ and supposedly forced Dzhokhar to take part in the plot after FBI tried to recruit Tamerlan as an informer. Dzhokhar’s defense will claim this to try to avoid the death penalty for Dzhokhar.

Defense attorneys representing Dzhokhar are expected to downplay his role in the attack by putting emphasis on his older brother’s ‘all-powerful’ status in the siblings’ relationship in hopes this spares him the death penalty.

According to new motions filed Friday by Tsarnaev’s legal team, the lawyers hope to convince the jury that Tamerlan Tsranaev’s alleged role in a triple homicide in 2011 made Dzhokhar perceive his sibling as a force that could not be ignored or disobeyed.

Dzhokhar’s lawyers also claimed that the FBI tried to recruit his older brother as an informant on the Chechen and Muslim community. The defense petitioned a judge to order federal prosecutors to turn over any evidence on Tamerlan Tsarnaev, arguing that it could help persuade a jury to spare Dzhokhar Tsarnaev the death penalty if it supports the defense theory Tamerlan was the ‘main instigator.’

Tsrarnaev’s legal team are seeking records of all FBI contact with Tamerlan based on information from the Tsarnaev family and others that the FBI ‘questioned Tamerlan about his Internet searches, and asked him to be an informant, reporting on the Chechen and Muslim community.’

A report released earlier this week by the House Homeland Security Committee suggests that government agents monitored Tamerlan and his communications during 2011 and possibly 2012. One must ask how than Homeland Security was not aware of the boys Boston bombing plans.
