Gay Man Files $70M Lawsuit Against Bible Publishers Over ‘Homosexual’ Verses

Barack Obama and the Supreme Court are to blame for suits like this that are occurring all over the country. 

A gay man has filed a $70 million lawsuit against Bible publishers Zondervan and Thomas Nelson, claiming that their version of the Bible that refers to homosexuality as a sin violates his constitutional rights and has caused him great emotional distress.

Daily Headlines reported that Bradley LaShawn Fowler, an ex-con turned author, filed the federal suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on Monday, the same day a judge refused to appoint him a lawyer for his suit against Thomas Nelson, The Grand Rapids Press reported.

“The Court has some very genuine concerns about the nature and efficacy of these claims,” the judge wrote.

Fowler, who is representing himself in both cases, claims that Zondervan manipulated Scripture by using the term “homosexuals” in 1 Corinthians 6:9 of their 1982 and 1987 revised edition Bibles. He also contends that the reference to homosexuality were deleted by the publisher in later versions without informing the public.

He alleges that since the older Kings James Version containing the term “homosexuals” is used by his family pastor, he has been outcast by his family.

The 39-year-old is suing the Grand Rapids publisher for compensation of 20 years of “emotional duress and mental instability,” he told WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids.

In a hand-written suit, Fowler lists all sorts of charges against Zondervan including malicious negligence, strict liability, malice, libel, and violating his civil rights. He filed a suit in June against Tennessee-based publisher Thomas Nelson on similar grounds. He’s seeking $60 million from Zondervan and $10 million from Thomas Nelson Publishing.

Zondervan issued a statement to The Christian Post that said they do not discuss ongoing litigation. The company’s spokesperson Tara Powers, however, pointed out that they only publish Bibles, not translate them.

    • When I was researching this I could not find anymore information aside from what I posted. Thank you for advising me, I put an ‘update’ at the bottom with an apology for the inaccuracy of the article.

      • Zondervan sold the rights to the NIV several years ago to Rupert Murdock. Ironic since he is a publisher of pornograhpy.

      • Then you should’ve pulled it down. The “apology” comes across as insincere if you leave it up. Looks like you still want to incite inflammatory responses.

  1. I have the King games version of the bible. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says, ” Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the Kingdom of God.”That is whole text, and no one word should be excluded from the text. These verses address more than effeminate (LGBT). I find it ironic that for centuries Christians have been ostracized and ridiculed and that has been okay to do. If the gentleman that is so offended by this one word, then don’t read the bible, grow a backbone and stop nit picking.

  2. We should also concern ourselves with the removal of words from the bible especially the NIV version. Such as Matthew 17:21, 18:11 and many more. Let us pray! Jesus is coming soon!

  3. I am pro same sex marriage; pro a woman’s right to choose, and pro the separation of church and state. If someone does not like what is printed in the Christian Bible, they should leave it alone and write their own Bible. It ain’t that hard to do! If you want equal rights then you have to give them — regardless of how a religion or a religious instrument might offend you — go design your own religion and practice whatever it is that you preach and write in your Bible.

  4. Why must my right to read God’s word as translated be trumped by others desire to make their unnatural sexual choice seem ‘normal’? I have a right to read God’s word as HE inspired man to write the Bible.
    We forget that God said that if a man lays with a man and a woman with a woman it is unnatural and an abomination to HIM.
    The current trend to accept the homosexual’s as natural is largely because people do not read God’s word with understanding and apply it rightly. I pray for His truth to reign richly in this world and that we as a people will loving show those that are living outside God’s standards for mankind the freedom of living a life holy before a LOVING and JUST God. Also may all Christian walk godly, righteously, and justly and to show mercy and grace. Christians need to STOP: living together without being married – God made marriage to be one man to one woman, read your KJV, NIV Bibles and see the problems whenever man did otherwise!!!!, having unforgiving spirits; drinking or using drugs that compromise your witness; watching shows/movies, playing games, reading, listening to music that is NOT God honoring; going to bars and gambling; etc.
    And start worshiping Him [God] in spirit and in truth, helping those in need, being loyal and honest employees/employers, spouses/parents, friends/neighbors.
