How Many Times Did Messiah Obama Mention Himself In His Gun Control Weepfest?

Yesterday, during President Obama’s 33-minute address to expand background checks to almost anyone buying a firearm from a dealer and to make other gun rule changes via executive action, he referenced himself a whopping 76 times.

One would think that in order for a man to cry on cue in front of millions of people without being embarrassed, he would have to be enormously narcissistic and more than a little exhibitionistic.

As demonstrated by Barack Obama during the announcement of his new executive actions on guns, narcissism was the order of the day; according to Tom S. Elliott, the founder and editor of Grabien, writing at National Review, Obama’s 33-minute address featured him making reference to himself a whopping 76 times, more than twice per minute.

Grabien notes: “Note that in arriving at this calculation, I included mentions of ‘we’ when he was clearly including himself as part of the plural pronoun; the many uses of ‘we’ in referring to America at large were not included. ‘Me,’ ‘myself,’ and ‘our’ were also included.”

Obama’s rampant references to himself during his tear-fest don’t approach his own record for self-reference; on July 5, 2012, he gave a speech in using “I” and “me” a combined 117 times in a speech that lasted about 25 minutes and 32 seconds, over four times per thrilling minute.

But even that effort pales next to his speech two years later; in July 2014 Obama spoke in Austin, Texas, and used the first person singular 199 times in roughly 40 minutes, a blistering pace of five times per minute.

Calling Obama narcissistic is akin to stating the sun rises in the morning. Honoring the dead of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 2013, he posted a picture on Facebook of himself in front of the Arizona Memorial that barely included the name of the memorial.

Of course, Obama has had acolytes willing to feed his Messiah-complex; as Newsbusters pointed out in 2012, “An editorial in the Dutch newspaper Politiken declared ‘Obama is, of course, greater than Jesus.’ Recording artist Sting thought the President was the ‘divine answer’ to all of the world’s problems. ‘In many ways, he’s sent from God, because the world’s a mess.’”

The 2012 DNC featured the sale of a “Keep the Dream” calendar, in which one page showed a picture of Obama’s birth certificate followed by John 3:16, which reads, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The use of tears does not give inherent justice to a statement, but don’t tell the American left that; their history of using emotional manipulation instead of facts is long and well-documented. Barack Obama’s latest exercise into narcissism and emotional manipulation should not elicit surprise, but a general disgust that the left consistently attempts to cajole the American public by bawling like babies.
