Retired Lt. General Michael T. Flynn, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, is convinced the nation is facing a potential existential threat: a rising tide of Muslim extremists.
Flynn, speaking on Fox News Insider, said that we’re losing the war against radical Islam because we’re afraid to name, let alone destroy, the enemy.
“We can beat them, but we have to decide that this is an enemy first,” Flynn said of ISIS and other Islamist groups. “We’re being accused of all sorts of name-calling … this is crazy.”
“We are in a war. They have declared war on us.”
Flynn said that’s why he’s “100-percent” supporting Donald Trump, because the Republican nominee will actually acknowledge the threat we face.
“Political correctness kills,” Flynn said. “It will cause death, and we can’t have that.”
“I’m going to be very candid here. You don’t have a lot of people yelling ‘Jesus Christ!’ and putting a knife in somebody’s body or putting a knife in somebody’s head. This is a different enemy. It’s an enemy that we have not, frankly, understood in a couple administrations, and we definitely don’t understand them right now.”
Flynn is a retired United States Army lieutenant general who served as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, commander of the Joint Functional Component Command for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, and chair of the Military Intelligence Board from July 24, 2012, to August 2, 2014.
Prior to that, he served as Assistant Director of National Intelligence. He consistently pushed for greater information and intelligence sharing and was a leading figure in coalition and special operations intelligence operations.
Flynn co-authored a report in January 2010 through the Center for a New American Security entitled Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in Afghanistan, which criticized the intelligence community for lacking an understanding of the human-socio context of the battlefield in Afghanistan.
