Rashida Tlaib said congressional Democrats and Republicans are Islamophobic.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich.,who has a colorful history of anti-Semitism, was asked why she thinks some of her fellow Democrats responded so strongly in condemning Rep. Ilhan Omar’s most recent bout of anti-Semitic remarks.
Omar said that pro-Israel politicians are bought by groups like AIPAC and that those who support Israel have an “allegiance to a foreign country.” Her remarks sparked much condemnation from both Democrats and Republicans.
In a preview clip of an interview on Showtime’s “The Circus,” Tlaib suggested that “Islamophobia” within their party could be behind the swift condemnation for the comments.
“Why do you think people in your own party reacted so strongly against what [Omar] said?” The Circus host Alex Wagner asked Tlaib in an interview released Sunday.
“You know, I’m trying to figure it out. It’s just this past week, I feel, and I know this would be somewhat shocking for some, but I think Islamophobia is very much among the Democratic Party as well as the Republican Party,” Tlaib responded. “And I know that’s hard for people to hear, but there’s only been four members of Congress that are of Muslim faith. Three of them currently serve in this institution. More of us need to get elected, but more of us need to understand as we come into this institution that I have a lot of work to do with my colleagues.”
This response is pretty stunning.

The Democrats have a serious problem, specifically those in leadership positions, who need to get a handle on the freshman members, who have been embroiled in several controversies hurtful to their party. They have also been consuming the headlines, and taking the focus away from matters that the Democrats want to focus on, like spending the next two years investigating President Trump.
Tlaib doing an interview where she accuses the Democrats of Islamophobia, and then speaking about them as if they are children that she needs to train can’t go over very well. But what are they going to do about it, defending yourself from being called Islamophobic is just as difficult as being accused of being racist. It puts you on the defensive, and forces you to prove that you are not.
The question that the Democrats are facing is, how much longer do they allow this to continue, and more importantly, how do they rein them in, and regain control of the House.
Regardless, the Democrats problems are a blessing to the Republicans and President Trump going into the 2020 presidential race.
