READ: A Boy With Autism’s Incredibly Honest Poem Is Going Viral

The National Autism Association (NAA) shared a 10-year-old boy’s honest and heartfelt poem that he wrote for a classroom poetry assignment. Benjamin’s mother explained that the teacher asked the students to write a poem, entitled “I Am.”

“My 10 year old son with Aspergers was asked to write a poem for school titled ‘I Am,’ he was given the first 2 words in every sentence. This is what he wrote…” Fox News reported that she said.

Benjamin’s poem (above) read in part:

“I am odd, I am new

I understand now that so are you

I say I ‘feel like a castaway’

I dream of a day that that’s okay.” ‪

The poem was touching to many who read it on Facebook and has reached tens of thousands in the past week.

I love this poem! Hard to believe such a young boy has such big thoughts. It brought tears to my eyes. God Bless him and all kids in the spectrum!

This was one of the most touching poems I have read. If I could meet you I would hug you and tell you I think you are amazing. Don’t try to fit in….you are perfect just the way you are.
