Sen. Tim Scott Reacts To John Lewis ‘Trump Not Legitimate President’ (Video)

Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.), the only black Republican in the Senate, responded to comments made by Georgia Congressman John Lewis about the legitimacy of President-elect Donald Trump’s election, Fox News Insider reported.

Lewis said Trump is “not a legitimate president”, and Trump was later lambasted for responding to Lewis, who marched in Selma, Ala. with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and calling him “all talk… no action” for representing what he called a “crime-infested” Atlanta district.

“Number one, John Lewis is without any question, not only a Civil Rights hero, but an American hero,” Scott said, “and number two, Donald Trump is the legitimate president of the United States and will be sworn in on Friday.”

He called the back and forth between Lewis and Trump a “verbal Russian roulette” that will not help the country unite behind issues like repealing ObamaCare, tax reform and education.

“We should find a way to focus on the issues that bring America together… [on] the weekend that we celebrate the life and sacrifice of [King].”

Scott said he disagreed with Lewis’ comments about Trump and said he too has dealt with criticism of his office, “[But] how I respond says a lot about who I am… so both sides have real challenges for their interaction.”

Recalling a meeting with Trump, Scott said the president-elect is a gracious man, but also a counter-puncher when criticized.
