The Democrats may be taking a victory lap after their round of public impeachment hearings have concluded this week, but they may want to hold off on the celebrations; The DOJ is about to start lobbing some serious shots in their direction.
Just days ago, Senator Lindsey Graham announced that a long-awaited report on the alleged “SpyGate” scandal was set to drop on December 9th. This investigation focused on reports that the Obama administration perhaps abused their power in order to “spy” on the Trump campaign, using an unverifiable source in order to obtain a warrant to surveil members of then-candidate Trump’s 2016 team.
If true, the news would be completely devastating for the Democrats’ attempts to sway public opinion against President Trump, and would greatly undermine their chances at impeachment.
According to President Trump, this IG report could do a whole lot more than that.
The president gave an interview to Fox and Friends on Friday morning, in a phone conversation aired on the network.
Trump said he was not personally involved with the investigation, leaving it to Attorney General Bill Barr.
“He’s a great attorney general we would maybe have ended this thing a lot sooner had he been there originally,” Trump said.
Trump commented after reports leaked an FBI lawyer was under investigation for possibly altering a document to get a FISA warrant.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham announced Thursday that DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz would be released on December 9 and would testify about the report on December 11.
“What you’re going to see, I predict, will be perhaps the biggest scandal in the history of our country,” Trump said.
And, as if there was any doubt about which way this report was going to fall:
“They were spying on my campaign and it went right to the top and everybody knows it and now we’re going to find out,” Trump said.
Buckle up, Democrats; things are about to get bumpy.
