In an interview set to air Sunday, Former FBI Director James Comey admitted to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that he did not tell President Trump who financed the Fusion GPS dossier because it “wasn’t necessary for my goal.”

“Did you tell him that the Steele dossier had been financed by his political opponents?” Stephanopoulos asked.

Comey replied, “No. I didn’t – I didn’t think I used the term ‘Steele dossier.’ I just talked to him about additional material.”

Stephanopoulos responded, “But did he have a right to know that?”

“That it had been financed by his political opponents? I don’t know the answer to that,” Comey responded. “It wasn’t necessary for my goal, which was to alert him that we had this information.”

Trump fired Comey from the FBI on March 9, 2017, and news that the anti-Trump dossier was funded by the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign did not come to light until October 24, 2017, when The Washington Post broke the story, The Daily Wire reported.
