Defense Secretary Ash Carter and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford are expected to confirm that Haji Imam, ISIS’ second in command was killed during a raid in Syria this month death and provide details on the raid at 10:30 a.m. ET.
Officials told NBC News earlier this month that top ISIS commander Omar al-Shishani — also known by his nickname Omar the Chechen — was believed killed in a U.S. airstrike in Syria.
The deaths are major scores for U.S.-led coalition forces in taking out the biggest names on the U.S.’s terror hit list.
